Bringing hope to the Maasai people through the Gospel of Jesus Christ.
IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT
Dear Friends of HFTM,
It is with deep sorrow and broken hearts that we write to you today. As beloved friends and partners in our ministry to the Maasai people we want to exercise complete transparency in all things and inform you of some important developments. We recently became aware of serious allegations of moral failures by Pastor Josephat Kaloi which we consider a severe breach of trust. We have credible evidence that many of these allegations are true. This has resulted in a decision by the board to officially and immediately terminate all organizational ties with Pastor Kaloi. The nature of the offenses include the following:
- Sexual immorality/abuse of one of our rescued women
- Physical violence against his wife
- Embezzling
- Lying to cover up misconduct
- Forgery
These most recent instances of misconduct were not Pastor Kaloi’s first offense. In February of 2023, Josephat was caught in a lie concerning the use of organizational funds in the amount of $200. He eventually confessed in a spirit of brokenness and seemed to express genuine repentance. The matter was brought before the board and a decision was made to extend a second and final chance. It was clearly communicated to Josephat at that time that honesty and integrity were critical for an ongoing relationship and a strong warning was issued that any future occurrence would result in the termination of our partnership with him.
These recent findings have come as a great shock and deep source pain for Mandy, myself, and our family as we have invested our hearts and lives into the Maasai people. We have grown very close to Josephat and his family over the years and consider them part of our own family. We esteemed him highly as a trustworthy servant of God. However, it has become very clear that he is no longer the man that we once knew. Though he has done many great things for his community through our support, we can no longer, in good faith, trust him to execute his duties with integrity.
At the present time, we are temporarily suspending funding for projects with the exception of student tuition for the 2024 school year. We are in an ongoing investigation to uncover any other cases of abuse and corruption. We will be making a trip to Kenya to address this situation in person. We are fully committed to the safety and long-term well-being of the girls that we support and will be directing funds to ensure they are taken care of.
Please be in prayer as we spend time seeking God’s will for the future of Hope for The Maasai.
Thank you for all of your loving and generous support through the years. It has truly changed the lives of so many!
If you have any questions, you can contact myself or Mandy at hopeforthemaasai@gmail.com and we will be happy to answer your questions or concerns.
Sincerely,
Jason Simpson
